Built in 1918, this spacious two-story, dark red brick home exhibits the influence of the Prairie School style of architecture. Eight massive brick Romanesque columns connected the first and second story porches, four the front and four on the east side. The house was built for Alexander Duff and Sara A. Owen Mebane. A. D. Mebane was one of Caldwell County's most prominent citizens. Mebane gained international fame by developing the drought resistant Mebane Triumph Cotton Seed which revolutionized cotton throughout the world.
