Ending Notes
We leaders hear it all the time from parents: "I don't have time" or "I don't know anything about Scouting." Believe me, when I was talked into being an assistant I said that I didn't know how to do it. I was handed a slip of paper with a date and address for training, and told to bring $5. Guess what! The training went over crafts, how the program works, and most of all I learned how friendly the Scouting bunch is! We all come from differnt backgrounds, different parts of the nation, big families, small families, etc. We all have something unique to share with each other. Bad day? Scouters are good listeners. Good day? Hey, Scouters love to hear about them.
"My work schedule won't allow me to help out." Bah, humbug.  The person who says that he can't help due to work is either Scrooge or thinks he works for him.  Have time to go to a movie? To sit and watch TV? You can help out by making phone calls to remind Scouts about a special event. Even if you just help your own son with a project out of his program book. That is helping.  There are many things in the Wolf and Bear books that only take 5-10 minutes to complete. Everyone owes some time to their kids. That is part of
being a parent. Your kid will cherish the time you spend with him, and later he will do the same for his kid. Be a Scouter.  No experience necessary!

Please note: this is not an official page of the Boy Scouts of America, although it is a link known by the Capitol Area Council. Its purpose is to meet other people involved in the scouting movement and/or to promote scouting. Thank You.
